Memorial of Gratitude

Memorial of Gratitude

2010 Opoczno, Poland Mirek Struzik

The project aim was to commemorate Opoczno region inhabitants murdered in prison, concentration camps and killed in action during World War II and in struggle for independence of Poland.

Memorial of Gratitude is build on the circle. The form of the monument refers to the rotunda to emphasize the place as a “temple” of memory and gratitude. The luminous aureola, apotheosis of glory, heroism and victory of the fallen, hovers on three pillars, which represent spiritual sublimity. Anybody wanting to read the plaque has to step into the space of the monument and become its part. The plinth has the shape of a truncated cylinder, to emphasize the martyrdom of people who sacrifice their life on the altar of the history of the struggle for independence of Poland.
