Bubble Flowers
Inspired by the chrysanthemums the Miaoli region is famous for — and the technology it’s building its future on — Bubble Flowers translates a native flower into the language of stainless steel and light. Mirek Struzik studied the chrysanthemum’s form in close detail, then rebuilt it at monumental scale using electropolished 316L stainless steel, letting the organic structure of the petals guide the sculpture’s abstract geometry.
By day, the piece reads as pure form: a large-scale botanical abstraction rendered in mirror-polished metal, catching and refracting the changing light of the park around it. At dusk, an integrated LED lighting system takes over, and the sculpture undergoes a complete transformation — color moving through the structure the way light moves through a living petal.
The lighting system carries over 10 dedicated thematic programs, each tuned to a different occasion. Tongluo Science Park can activate specific sequences for national holidays, seasonal festivals, corporate milestones, or other celebrations — giving the sculpture a changing identity throughout the year rather than a single fixed appearance.
Bubble Flowers stands at the entrance to Tongluo Science Park, where it has become a daily landmark for the people who work there — present at the start of the day and, in a different form, at its close.
